Wall-to-wall textile carpet with floral decoration

Decorative wall carpet, traditionally referred to as wall tapestry or wall carpet, probably dates from the 19th to early 20th century and follows a long tradition of textile wall coverings in townhouses, castles and chateaus. It is woven from natural fibres, usually linen or jute, with a flat weaved floral motif in muted tones of blue, beige and ochre. The surface bears a noticeable patina, in places the texture is softened by age, the condition is original without interference. It was intended exclusively for hanging on the wall, where it fulfilled not only a decorative but also an insulating function.
