Glass harmonica This is a relatively rare musical instrument. Hemispheres of different sizes are used to make it. These glass objects are strung on a metal axle. Typically, the axis is oriented horizontally and is expected to rotate efficiently. The assembly of hemispheres is partially housed in a resonant box where dilute acetic acid is poured.
Single blows on a glass vessel were, of course, used in music for centuries before the invention of the glass harmonica. However, the use of friction to generate sounds proved to be an absolute innovation. The main ability of the instrument is related to the fact that the technique of playing is close to the method used on the keyboard. A true keyboard version was developed, where the presses set in motion a special mechanism connected to the soundboard. Chromatic tuning is typical of glass harmonics, and the range covers 2.5 to 4 octaves in various models.
